The Story Of Gold
The story of gold is one of blood and beauty, crime and magnificence, lies and romance. Mans’ relentless pursuit of gold through the centuries has resulted in atrocities against humanity only outnumbered by religion, and spawned more scams, deceits and crimes than can be imagined.
From the alchemists of the middle ages to the criminals and politicians of today the ingenuity shown in parting gold from its’ legitimate owners remains unsurpassed in any other activity.
Between the two world wars US President Franklin Roosevelt banned banks from paying out in gold and ordered all citizens to surrender their gold to the government.
In 1983 thieves got away with GBP 25 million in gold bullion from Heathrow Airport. The haul consisted of 6800 gold bars weighing approx 3 Tons!! The largest gold robbery in history.
As recently as 2004 police foiled an attempt to steal GBP 80 million in gold bullion, Swiss francs and US dollars.
Despite having a history of blood and suffering gold remains the most treasured and coveted of all assets, especially in China, India and the East, not only for personal adornment as an outward show of wealth but for its safe haven status in uncertain times.
When people lose confidence in paper money savvy investors turn to gold. For thousands of years gold has been and still remains the only lasting eternal measure of true wealth.
