Source: Reuters  12/18/2006

The Toronto Stock Exchange's gold-mining subsector was renamed the Global Gold Index on Monday and now comprises 30 companies, including gold miners that are not incorporated in Canada and do not trade on the exchange.

The Global Gold Index, home to the five biggest players in the gold industry, is not a component of the Toronto key composite index.

The world's second-biggest gold producer, U.S.-based Newmont Mining, as well as world's No. 3, South African-based AngloGold Ashanti, and No. 4, South African-based Gold Fields Ltd., have been added to the Global Gold Index.

Already in the index is the world's biggest gold miner, Toronto-based Barrick Gold Corp. and the third largest producer by market capitalization, Vancouver-based Goldcorp Inc. "
